Brooklyn’s Visual Arts Inquiry Learning Story.

Brooklyn’s Visual Arts Inquiry Learning Story
Term 3 2019

How do we communicate our ideas and opinions about an issue through
visual arts?

My presentation is about what I was doing for my inquiry. E.g; what I already
know about clay and animal abuse, what I need, what it will look like . . .

First I figured out what my inquiry question which is “How do I communicate
my Ideas, Opinion, and feelings about Animal Abuse using Clay?” because I
wanted to find out what to do for my inquiry.
Then I took action by deciding what my clay design would look like and
started drawing my design so I knew what my clay thing would look like.

I used google to help me find some drawings for animal abuse.
I should have used stencil because I think it is going to be hard to make it
out of clay.

I want you to know that I was good at making connections because some
people had kind of the same ideas as me.

I also want you to know that I was good at taking action because every time

we did inquiry I made sure that I was working on my design.

The key competency I used well was managing myself because I got my design done and was sitting in the right spot.

I want you to know that I need to work on start taking action earlier because I didn’t take action early and I didn’t make my clay design because I took action late.

The key competency that will help me next time is participating and contributing because I could get my work design done faster.

I want you to know that I found it hard to take action because I am too busy trying to find different designs for my clay.

“How do we  make meaning from our library book?”
Image result for diary of the wimpy kid double down
Have you ever had a huge friendship like Greg and Rowley?

When I choose a library book I look for books that are funny and books that I am interested in.
I like reading books about people trying to show off in front of people because it is funny and fighting books because they don’t make you get bored.

My book is called Diary Of The Wimpy Kid (Double Down)

It is a chapter book.

Its purpose is to get you hooked in, not get bored and interested.

I located information so I found out that Greg and Rowley love to go trick or treating, he likes to eat heaps of candy and he is addicted to video games.

I inferred so I worked out that Greg was jealous of his friend Rowley because he is always involved in everything that the girls are involved in.

I evaluated so I think that if I was Greg I would join the groups that are getting invited so I can go to the party that he wants to go to.

Maths learning story. 2019

Brooklyn’s Maths learning story
Term 3 2019

How do we solve a tricky math problem as a group?

Eluama’s family in Tokelau tells him to get some coconuts. He climbs three different coconut trees.

He climbed 3.06m up the first tree, 3.97m up the second tree and 2.57m up the third tree.

His friend climbed 3 different trees. The first one he climbed was 2.97m, the second one he climbed was 3.08m and the third one he climbed was 4.32m.

Which of them did the most climbing that day?

Eluama
First, we added up all the whole numbers on the trees that Eluama climbed which were 3+3+2=8 Then we added up the decimal numbers 0.6+.97+.57=1.60 Then I did 1.60 + 8 = 9.60

His friend.
We solved it the same way as Eluama.
First, we added the whole numbers on the trees that his friend climbed which was 2+3+4=9 Then we added the decimal numbers which is .97+0.8+.32=? Then I did .30+.90+0.8=1.28
Then I did 0.7+0.2=0.9
After that I did 0.9+1.28=1.37
After that I did 1.37 + 9 = 10.37.
And we found out that his friend climbed the most that day.

I want you to know that I am good at sharing my ideas with others so they can get another idea and move on with their work.

I am also good at asking questions because if I don’t know what to do or don’t understand I can ask someone to explain to me in a different way or again.

The key competency I use well was relating to others because I help my group to understand, get ideas and stay on the waka.

I want you to know that I need to work on staying on task because when it is time for a group to share back I always sit by people that I know I am going to talk to.

The key competency that will help me next time is managing myself so I can make the right choices about not talking about the wrong stuff.

I want you to know that I find it hard to not go off task in my group because I get distracted easily.

Eteuati’s Feedback
You were good at sparking our group's ideas because every time we start you have an idea that gives our group a good idea that can help our group move on.

You needed to work on explaining your idea because when you have an idea you don’t explain it before you write it down so we understand.

Writing L.S.

Brooklyn’s Writing Learning Story.
Term 3 2019

“How do we  create a moment in time so our audience feels like they are
there with us?”

As I am walking on the stage, the butterflies flying around in my stomach. I
am really nervous about performing in front of hundreds of people.

Before I knew it our first song starts and I am singing loudly trying to focus
on the song and not my nerves. Then I start to smile and it is so fun, the big
audience is cheering for us so loudly we can’t even hear our song. Finally, our
song is finished, now it is time for our sasa. We are all pumped because we all
like the drumbeat. I am thinking to myself “we can’t mess this up now we have
trained too hard” I can hear the drums starting.

My sweat is pouring down as if it is raining because it is very hot. We are all
doing the actions very fast because our drummer is drumming so fast we are
all thinking “is this the flash drumming?” The sasa is finished, now it is time
for the girls to dance, the music is on, the boys are screaming “cheerhooo!”
Taylor-Von is doing her dance the crowd is cheering the loudest I have ever
heard them cheer.

Reflection
I am good at using a range of types of sentences - complex, compound and
simple. This is engaging for my readers.

I need to work on writing enough to get an entertaining ending to my moment
in time writing.

I need to work on choosing to use words, phrases, simile, etc to describe and
build a picture and the mood of my writing (excitement, fear, pride. . .)
